Required Paperwork
All coaches need to have the required paperwork submitted to the league by April 21, 2024.
The league reimburses cost for Respect-in-Sport (RIS) and the cost of any additional charges associated with a Criminal Record Check (CRC), if applicable.
Paperwork includes;
- Respect-in-Sport (completed) with Certificate number
- Criminal Record Check - See below under "Criminal Record Checks"
- Injury/Waiver Form (applicable only if you're a Junior Coach).
Paperwork may be submitted to Ryan Ghuman, NSIHL League Manager via email or the KMA trophy case drop box.
Junior Coach Application Process
If you're under 19 and wish to coach in the NSIHL, you're considered a Junior Coach. Junior coaching is great for those looking to get volunteer hours for graduation or looking to also help out in your community and gain valuable life experience.
Junior coaches and Junior coaching groups must have an adult Mentor (ideally someone who has coached or managed before). If you are struggling to find a mentor, the league can assist you in finding someone.
All junior coaches are required to complete the attached Junior Coach Waiver and DO NOT need a Criminal Record Check (CRC).
To apply to become a junior coach, include your desired coaching division, your resume, and why you want to coach for the NSIHL. Email all this info to NSIHL League Manager. Successful applicants will be sent a reply email confirming their coaching assignment and to proceed with completing the Junior Coach Waiver and Respect-In-Sport certification.
Criminal Record Checks
All adult (19 or older) NSIHL coaches must complete a Criminal Record Check (CRC).
It is recommended to use Google Chrome as your browser when doing your Application.
The CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK SUBMISSION DEADLINE is APRIL 21, 2024

RESPECT IN SPORT CERTIFICATION
Roller Hockey Canada (RHC), announced in 2010 that they've partnered with Respect in Sport to be the first step of the new Roller Hockey Canada Coaching Certification Program. The completion of Respect In Sport is a requirement to coach in the NSIHL.
"This is the first of several announcements to come in the near future from RHC regarding the Coaching Certification Program and we view it as one of the most important ones we will make," Kevin Sharp, President, RHC-Canada explains. "We feel that any coaching certification is not complete unless it involves a tool to educate coaches on bullying, harassment and general behaviour when coaching players in sport. By partnering with Respect in Sport, RHC will be providing this education tool to our coaches and associations to make sure that the coaches we have in our game are educated in that regard."
RHC has made it mandatory for all coaches in member leagues to have Respect in Sport certification after the 2011 season.
The link will allow coaches to register directly with Respect in Sport and complete the online certification program.
"By providing our coaches this program as well as allowing our leagues and membership to recognize Hockey Canada’s Speak Out certification process, we are making sure that those coaches who have already been trained in Respect in Sport or Speak Out will not have to go through the process again," Marty Alexander, VP Programming, RHC ensures. RHC understands that many of our coaches have crossover education from ice hockey as well as other sports, we wanted to make sure that our coaching requirements allowed them to use certifications received through other means."
Respect in Sport is the leader for online certification for Abuse, Harassment and Bullying education and the cost to register for the program is $31.50 including GST.
After you have completed the program, please email a copy of your payment receipt and certificate of completion to the NSIHL Treasurer and you will be fully reimbursed for the program fee.
"Online certification is a great tool for us, as we are a sport that is widespread, without the logistical power to host clinics in every community" Fleck continues. "RHC is moving toward online certification opportunities for many programs in the near future and we are proud to be associated with the leaders in this area of education."
