Zulu Try-out Schedule

We are anticipating sending a record number of teams to the NARCh Tournament in July. Here is important information regarding the NSIHL Zulu tournament team and try-outs for the 2025 season. Please review to ensure you have the correct dates/times for tryouts and understand the expectations for each team and the players.

To be eligible for tryouts, players must be registered in the competitive (Comp) program for U11 and above. The tryout fee is $60. If you want to attend but have not paid the fee please email tournaments@nsihl.com and let us know you are coming.

Dates: All tryouts will take place at Karen Magnussen. We have added a third skate for some age groups due to increased numbers. Players playing in a higher age group during the regular season are to attend the tryouts for their actual age. Girls can play down one year (i.e. 2017 birth year can tryout for the U7 team).

Selections will be made after the last skate for each group and rosters will be communicated ASAP.

To be considered for their respective team, players must attend at least one of the skates (we highly recommend attending all skates).

As an exception we will consider past Zulu players who are unable to attend tryouts due to injury, junior hockey commitments and/or school commitments. This exception must be granted by the Zulu committee prior to the start of tryouts.

Rosters: Teams will consist of 8 to 12 skaters and a goalie. In some age groups, there is potential for two Zulu teams to be formed. This will be decided in tryouts by the Zulu committee.

Tournaments: NARCh has released the block schedule: News: NARCh FINALS - Host Hotels and Block Schedule - NARCh. Families need to be able to commit to the July dates for your specific team(s). Based on feedback from past families we are exploring sending teams to Bend, Oregon June 13th-15th for a regional NARCh tournament: Bend Pavillion - NARCh. The Bend tournament is not mandatory and will be discussed once individual teams are formed.

Team practices: Each Zulu team will practice one time per week after selections are made until July. Practices will be rotating before and after school during the week. The expectation for these teams is that anyone selected will attend practices on a weekly basis.

Uniforms and team gear: Any returning Zulu player selected to a team will be able to use their jersey and pants from last year (if they choose). Any new Zulu players will be required to purchase a new uniform that includes two jerseys and one pair of pants. Additional Zulu swag will be offered but is not mandatory.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Zulu committee -

We are very excited about the quantity and quality of teams going down this year and, as always, we expect our teams to be contending for medals.

Thank you very much,
